What types of things does Richard "hunger" for
and what are the effects (positive and negative) of hunger?
There are many things that Richard hungers for. He, first off, hungers for food and water, the necessities. Next, he hungers for a permanent dwelling because he is always moving around from place to place. He then hungers for an education. He wants a good education but he can never seem to get it because something always pops up during school. This causes him to loose valuable learning that he will need to make up later. Furthermore, Richard hungers for a job and his own money. He sees many kids buying lunches and clothes with their money. He doesn't have any money because he doesn't have a job, so he has to hunger for that too. He also hungers for love because he has abusive relationship with almost all of his relatives. This is what Richard, the main character in Black Boy, hungers.
There are many effects of hunger, some are positive and some are negative. Some positive effects of hunger is that you want something really bad so you are working very hard to get or obtain it. Another positive effect is that good hunger will help you set goals and that is good because it gives you something to work for. A negative effect of hunger is that you can become ill and malnutritioned if you are hungering for food. You can eventually die too. More on, a negative effect of hunger is that you might do crazy things in order to reach what you are trying to accomplish or hunger for. These are the negative and positive effects of hunger. I still don't like this book very much, but my OR one is very good.

I pretty much said almost everything you did. I agree with that Richard hungers for education and money along with food, and that this will drive him to do extreme things.
